The team rented a van and drove 17 hours overnight to the collegiate nationals race in Gulfport, Mississippi. This was another great experience for the team, with an ocean swim, low elevation, a flat bike, and flat run. Similar to Miami, the Olympic race has almost 1,000 entrants split among multiple waves. NMSU Triathlon Club had five representatives at the race: four athletes and one team photographer.

Our first collegiate race of the season is usually the Pumpkinman Triathlon in late October. This year the race got cancelled due to the government shutdown closing all national parks. Originally, the team was going to take 12 people to the race, but when the race was cancelled that evaporated. To try and make the best out of the airbnb, Colin, Philip, and Landon travelled to Boulder City for a team photoshoot with the new uniforms.

To start off our semester we competed in the local Eagle in the Sun triathlon in El Paso. We gained a lot of new members in the fall semester and this was a great opportunity for everyone to come to a triathlon and participate in a relay. We had two relay teams and they took 1st and 2nd in the relay team competition, and our individual athlete was second in his age group.

We had a great showing at the Lobo Triathlon in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This is a popular race that is close to home for many of our athletes, and we had six athletes compete in the race. The Lobo is a sprint triathlon hosted around the UNM campus and was a great first triathlon for several of our athletes (Jojo, Chloe, and Mauricio)! The race is a run, bike, swim format which is always interesting in the pool, but everyone had a great time!

After competing in the conference race in Arizona, four members flew to Miami for the collegiate nationals competition. This was the largest race the team had ever been to with over 1000 entrants for the olympic race. Colin got extremely sick the night before the race and couldn't compete but was able to get some photos of the race. One of the unique features about this course is that the run course was hosted on the Homestead Miami speedway! It was a great team experience and the first time that NMSU had been present at a nationals race in over 10 years.

The NMSU Triathlon Club travelled to Lake Havasu in Arizona for the Conference Championships to compete against other schools in the Mountain conference. We lined up against UofA, ASU, CU Boulder, University of Colorado, Grand Canyon University, BYU, and other big schools in the southwest. This was the first olympic triathlon for several of our athletes and the water in the canal was a frigid 55F. All of our athletes had sleveless wetsuits which were pretty rough in that temperature, but we all survived and had a great time.
